Hitchhiking

Hitchhiking was always the prefered mode of travel, even in countries where it had never been heard of he would attempt it.
In Aghanistan he and Ingrid were twice taken to the bus station before finally procuring a lift to Kandahar (with the aid of a friendly local).
Having a baby didn’t stop Daniel travelling, though, and Kunden was hitch-hiking (with pushchair) before she was 3, after which time this mode of travel became a regular event.
She remembers hitch-hiking from Greece with him and being woken up on the morning of her 9th birthday in an apple orchard in Yugoslavia. Daniel preferred to sleep directly under the stars - even if a tent was available. He also took her hitchhiking in France and Sweden.
He was an easy going father; on that trip to Greece Kunden went off with a friend one evening without saying where they were going. After hours of searching, he found her at 1 o’clock in the morning in a local night-club. Although he must have been worried sick, he simply had a little dance with his 8-year-old daughter before suggesting going home to bed!
