What started as a couple of months fruit picking turned into a year working for a horticulturalist and developing a commune. The house was situated about 70km from Avignon and three from Egalières. Daniel & Ingrid were recruited at the youth hostel in Avignon by Guy Fink (for whom Daniel had previously worked)to pick cherries, almonds and apricots. Having finished they were invited to set up a commune. Daniel surmised that Guy looked on them as replacements for his two sons lost in a car crash. Tasks involved helping with the cultivation of seeds and bulbs, and assist with landscape gardening. In return they would have payment, a large house to live in and land enough to create a large kitchen garden and start their own money-making project. The project came to an abrupt end with Guy's untimely death. Samar was given to some friends.
