Daniel loved the outdoors – be it sea, forest or desert – he loved them all; walking and cycling were favourites. He was a very private person who liked his solitude and for many years he would spend a month in the summer cycling in France. Until they knew him better, some found him distant. But he was an avid reader and his knowledge on a vast range of topics was appreciated by all his friends, as was his wry sense of humour. The poet in him was little known.

Daniel was a great philosopher, always willing to give an interesting and alternative view of life. He was widely read and well informed. He understood the workings of the world and was never afraid to express his opinion. He fathered a beautiful daughter who he helped raise to become a compassionate and intelligent woman.

Daniel was an excellent cook and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes from all over the world. His daughter was always welcome in the kitchen.
